On Tuesday the 23rd of October, I had the honor and pleasure to speak on the subject of gLocality and innovation at the Udine’s DITEDI (District of Digital Technologies) born in a corner of Italy where the concentration of companies that are somehow involved in innovation and digital is awesome, one of the largest in Europe.

During my speech, I first introduced the correlation between the digitization of the economy, democratization, cooperation and resilience (in a context of access to resources that will become increasingly problematic in the future) and then moved on to the topic of company transformation.

Generating a more resilient culture of entrepreneurship, striving for a “Future Proof Enterprise” (I already dealt with this in the past) the very same long term business that Fred Wilson is teaching in the Valley thanks to its “How to be in business Forever “ skillshare class: this is the innovation to look for right now.

This innovation quest, however, passes not only trough the acquisition of new learning tools, (such as lean thinking and agile practice) but also trough a more or less radical cultural change as local administrators have correctly guessed during the introduction.

I finished with three clear rules to be followed:

• enable cross-fertlization through physically and logically shared creative contexts (such as Coworking, Fablabs or Hackerspaces)
• focus on your own unique culture, nurture local, trustable relations and seek for local impact,in the long-term
• foster an entrepreneurial mindset and teach job creation rather than job search (“make a job”).

With me there was Carlo Daffara that is certainly one of the greatest open source experts in the whole world (thanks so much for inviting me, Carlo) and Stefano Maffulli, now community manager of Open Stack project as well as Fabrizio Capobianco, president and founder of Funambol, with a remote speech.

Ultimately I have to say that only for the precious chats over Free Software we had, full of anecdotes about Richard Stallman and the FSF, would have been worth going.

Alimentare l’innovazione gLocale

Martedi 23 ottobre ho avuto l’onore e il piacere di intervenire sul tema della glocalità e dell’innovazione presso il DITEDI, distretto friulano per le tecnologie digitali nato in una parte dell’Italia dove la concentrazione di aziende che si occupano di innovazione e digitale è impressionante, tra le maggiori in Europa.

Il mio intervento, ha dapprima introdotto la correlazione tra digitalizzazione dell’economia, democratizzazione, cooperazione e resilienza (nel quadro di un accesso alle risorse che diventerà sempre più problematico) per poi passare a trattare il tema dell’impresa e delle sue trasformazioni.

La generazione di una maggiore cultura dell’imprenditoria resiliente, quella “Future Proof Enterprise” che ho già trattato in passato, quel long term business che anche Fred Wilson sta insegnando nella Valley grazie al suo corso “How to stay in business Forever”:questa è l’innovazione da cercare ora.

Un’innovazione che tuttavia passa non solo per l’acquisizione di nuovi strumenti di apprendimento, come il pensiero lean e la pratica agile, ma anche per un cambiamento più o meno radicale di punto di vista culturale (come correttamente anche gli amministratori locali hanno intuito).

Ho concluso con tre regole chiare da seguire nell’applicazione di questa ricerca:

• puntare alla cross-fertlizzazione grazie a contesti creativi fisicamente e logicamente condivisi (come i Coworking o gli hackerspace)
• puntare sulla propria cultura unica, sulle relazioni locali e a un impatto locale di lungo periodo
• favorire un atteggiamento imprenditoriale e la creazione di lavoro piuttosto che la ricerca.

Con me sono intervenuti Carlo Daffara (senz’altro tra i più esperti al mondo di Open source, che ringrazio per avermi invitato) e Stefano Maffulli (oggi community manager di open stack) oltre che Fabrizio Capobianco (presidente e fondatore di Funambol) in remoto.

Debbo dire in ultima analisi che ne sarebbe valsa la pena solo per la chiacchierata sul Free Software e gli aneddoti a proposito di Stallman e della FSF che ne sono usciti fuori in serata!
